Job Overview:

Join the Tennessee Department of Health in improving the health of Tennesseans. As a safety net for the uninsured, The Department of Health provides needed primary care to many vulnerable adults across the state The Mid-Cumberland Region includes 12 counties surrounding Davidson County.  The region is the largest rural region in the state and is comprised of 18 local health departments and has an estimated population of 1,200,000.  The Primary Care Director is the clinical leader to the thirty physicians and nurse practitioners who provide primary care in our 18 local health departments. 

The Mid-Cumberland region clinicians and leaders understand the need to work as a team to optimize the care provided to our patients.  The Primary Care Director works directly with the Regional Medical Director to lead these teams to provide the highest quality of care in an efficient manner.  They also engage with the Medical Directors and Primary Care Coordinators/Directors from the other 6 regions across the state to promote and lead the implementation of statewide initiatives in quality improvement.

 

Key Functions:

  • Provide guidance, facilitate onboarding, and conduct initial and ongoing professional performance evaluations for the primary care physicians.
  • Oversee the allocation of clinical resources within the region based on need.
  • Lead Quality improvement initiatives within the region and sit on the statewide quality improvement workgroup as one of the Mid-Cumberland representatives.
  • Utilize organizational skills and experience to implement improvements with the objective of increasing access to care for our uninsured and underinsured population.
  • Directly supervise Regional Pediatrician, Regional Primary Care Coordinator and Diabetes Director.
  • Will serve as a physician preceptor to a number of county level nurse practitioners.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Board Certified physician in Family Practice, Med Peds, or Internal Medicine.
  • At least 2 years experience as a primary care provider.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Passion for providing quality care.
  • Understanding of quality and process improvement.

 

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED

  • Experience leading clinical teams in both quality and process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in a public health or rural healthcare setting.
